Community Service
Community Service is an integral part of the Midwest Academy student experience. It complements our mission in the following ways:
Social Justice: As a progressive school committed to teaching our students about social justice, community service introduces our students to social injustices in our community and empowers them to make a difference for the greater good.
Service Learning: Volunteering empowers our students to see their unique gifts are capable of making a difference in the community and the world. Students learn, perhaps for the first time, how their talents can positively change the lives of others.
Community service is an ongoing effort throughout the school year, with high school mentor groups volunteering at least once per semester. Additionally, the entire student body performs community service for a full day each fall and during our annual Community Week.
Community Week
Every year, our whole school takes a week to focus on volunteering in our community. Every day during this week, students participate in 1 or 2 service projects. These projects range from cooking and serving food at a shelter, making flower bouquets for nursing home residents, and cleaning up parks. This week not only helps our community, but it also empowers students and gives them confidence in their abilities to improve their world.
